The bottom line: Wine is good, might need to come back for the pizza

My eating excursion in Charleston also took me to Social Restaurant + Wine Bar for my friend’s birthday dinner. The decor was cool and trendy. Lighting was provided by the candles at the center of the table and the hanging lights that were set to a very dim level. It seems like a good place to hang out but if you are out on a date then I would recommend going earlier in the evening since towards the end of the night the music gets louder and it’s very hard to hear each other. The service was also good given that we were a party of twelve.

At Social’s I decided to stick to eating something light since I was still feeling full from all the nachos I had eaten that afternoon. For drinks i decided to go with the rosè flight that they offer. One of the wines that they had included in the menu was out so they ended up substituting it for another rosè. As per the food I ended up ordering the Arugula and Fennel salad which was made of Boucheron cheese, grape, and walnuts. One of the things that I greatly appreciated was that the salad was not drenched in dressing. What is the purpose of a salad if you can’t even taste the vegetables! I believe this one was served with a vinaigrette type of dressing.

For the most part a salad is a salad and this one fell under this category. I wish though that they would have stated that this came with onions. I am not a big fan of them so I ended up having to go through my plate and leaving them aside. However, what did make this salad good was the mixture between the grapes and cheese. The combination of the creaminess of the cheese with the sweetness of the grapes was excellent.

Overall, it was a good standard meal. I would consider coming back to Social’s to try their pizza. Others at the table ordered this and it looked so tasty! The serving size was also big for someone who is just hungry enough. My friends who ordered pizzas confirmed that they were delicious! I am not going judge Social’s just on a salad as that would be unfair. It’s certainly a place to go to for some fun after work or on a night out.
